Asst. Prof. Ali İmer
Department of Geological Engineering
I received my Bachelor's degree from METU Geological Engineering Department in 2003 and my Master's degree in Mining Beds field from the same department in three years. I started my PhD program at the University of Alberta in Canada in 2006. During my doctoral studies, I did research on gold and copper deposits in Eastern Anatolia. I settled in Australia in 2012, and here I worked on the detection of copper-gold deposits as search geologists in the world-famous Mt. Isa mine area on the north-west of the state of Queensland. In about a year, I returned to the university as a researcher. I first worked at the Queensland Geothermal Center of Excellency (QGECE) in the University of Queensland, and then at the School of Earth Sciences in the same school. I was back in METU in 2015 and I still work as an assistant professor in the Department of Geological Engineering. My main research areas include the determination of the origin of hydrothermal-type bases and precious metal deposits and their tectonic, magmatic and structural control over the formation of these deposits. I am interested in nature trips, drumming, reading books and playing basketball outside of my academic studies.
Ayyüce SALMAN
School of Foreign Languages - Department of Basic English
I graduated from Boğaziçi University Department of English Language Teaching in 2010. Before joining METU, I worked as an English teacher at Istanbul Açı Schools and as an English instructor at Beykent University and Hitit University. In 2015, I became eligible to receive the Cambridge Delta Module 2 certificate. I completed the in-service training of School of Foreign Languages, METU in 2016. My research areas include critical thinking skills in foreign language classes. I am interested in ceramic art and archeology. 

Asst. Prof. Cüneyt BAYKAL
Department of Civil Engineering
I received my Bachelor's degree from the Department of Civil Engineering of METU in 2003, and Master's and Ph.D. from the same department in the fields of Coastal and Marine Engineering in 2006 and 2012, respectively. I worked as a research assistant in Civil Engineering Department of METU in the years of 2007-2012 and as a post-doctoral researcher in the Mechanical Engineering Department of Danish Technical University in the years of 2012-2014. I have been working as an assistant professor in the same department since February 2016, after serving as a part time instructor and researcher at the Research Engineering Center of the Department of Naval Engineering at METU Civil Engineering Department in the years of 2014-2016. I give lectures on fluid mechanics, data analysis, coastal and marine engineering. My main research areas include coastal line and nearshore morphology, wave-structure-sea-base interactions, turbulent currents and excavations around sea structures, and offshore and coastal structures. Some of my hobbies are cinema, painting, music and scuba diving.

Asst. Prof. Ebru Aydın Göl
Department of Computer Engineering
I received my Bachelor's degree from the Department of Computer Engineering of METU in 2008. I received my Master's degree from the Department of Computer Sciences of École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in 2010 and my PhD from the Department of System Engineerin of Boston University in 2014. After working at Google Inc. from 2014 to 2015, I joined METU as an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Engineering in March 2016.

I am doing research in the fields of formal methods, cyber-physical systems, formal design and verification of such systems.

Emel TURGUT
School of Foreign Languages - Department of Basic English
I graduated from the Department of English Language and Literature of Hacettepe University in 2004. I received my Master's degree on English Language and Literature from Hacettepe University in 2007 and from Education Management from Bilkent University in 2012. I also received the Cambridge English In-Service Training (ICELT) in 2007 and the Cambridge English Diploma in English as a Foreign Language (DELTA) in 2011. In 2004-2006, I taught English for adults in a language course, and academic English for Bilkent University Preparatory Program in 2006-2016. My research interests are English Literature, the place of literature in English education, and the effects of formal writing skills on academic writing skills. I am interested in creative do-it-yourself projects and literary criticism outside of work.

Asst. Prof. Işıl İşler
Department of Primary Eduaction
I graduated from Elementary Mathematics Teaching Program of METU in 2006. In the same year, I started to work as a math teacher in İDV Private Bilkent Secondary School and my Master's degree education in Elementary Science and Mathematics Education program at METU. After a year of teaching, I started to work as a research assistant at METU. After receiving my Master's degree, I continued with PhD at METU. In 2009, I studied at London Middlesex University for a while under Erasmus program. In 2010, I started my PhD program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and I had the opportunity to work with well-known academics in the field in many projects. I started to work as an Assistant Professor in Faculty of Education of METU in June 2016 after about 6 years in doctorate and post doctorate studies in Madison. My areas of study include mathematics education; and I am specifically interested in early algebra, reasoning, and teacher training. My hobbies are meditating and spending time in nature. I am happy and proud to have joined the METU family.

Asst. Prof. Melek AKIN ATEŞ
Department of Business Administration
I joined Department of Business Administration of METU in May 2015. After graduating from Business Administration and International Trade and Finance Departments from Izmir University of Economics under the double major program, I received a Master's degree in Supply Chain Management from Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University with Netherlands NUFFIC Fellowship. After completing my PhD on Purchasing Strategies in the same school, I worked as an assistant professor for two years. I conduct both quantitative and qualitative research with empirical methods in the areas of buyer-supplier relationships and the impact of purchasing on innovation and sustainability. I teach Operations Management (undergraduate, MBA, and Executive MBA) and Strategic Sourcing courses in the Department of Business Administration. I enjoy making abstract paintings in my leisure time, and trying to travel as much as I can.

Asst. Prof. Nihal TERZİ ÇİZMECİOĞLU
Department of Biological Sciences
I completed my undergraduate education in the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics of Bilkent University in 2001. Then, I received my PhD on the epigenetic mechanisms of the protein-coding gene expression in Harvard University. My post-doctoral studies were on epigenetic mechanisms that affected the differentiation processes of embryonic stem cells at the Boston Children's Hospital affiliated to the Harvard Medical School in 2011-2016. I joined the Department of Biological Sciences of Middle East Technical University in 2016 to share my experience and knowledge of stem cells and epigenetic issues and to set up my own research group.

Asst. Prof. Nurcan TUNÇBAĞ
Informatics Institute
I work at the Department of Health Informatics of Informatics Institute. I conduct studies about how the interaction and signaling networks between proteins and genomes change in various cancer types in the field of computational systems biology and bioinformatics. I received my BA and Ph.D. degrees in 2007 and 2010 from Chemical Engineering Department of İTÜ in 2005 and Department of Computational Science and Engineering of Koç University, respectively. In 2010-2014, I continued my post-doctoral studies in the Department of Biological Engineering of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). As part of the International Experienced Researcher Circulation Program, supported by the FP7 Marie Curie - TUBITAK joint fund, I have continued my academic activities at the Middle East Technical University since 2014. My studies on structural bioinformatics, computational system biology, patient-specific data integration, and network modeling have had a lot of reference and made a great impact in the field. My studies were awarded under the Science Academy's Young Scientists Award Program (BAGEP) in 2015.

Pelin YILMAZ YAVUZ
School of Foreign Languages - Department of Basic English
I am a graduate of Undergraduate Program of English Language Teaching, Department of Foreign Language Education, METU and Sociology Minor Program. I received an in-service training certificate (ICELT) from Cambridge English in 2013 and a Diploma in English Language Training (DELTA) in 2016. Before joining METU, I taught general English to primary and secondary school students at Aydın TED College and academic English to Bilkent University Preparatory Program. My research interests include English literature, society-linguistics, folklore and anthropology. Apart from work, I am interested in creative writing, calligraphy and horticulture.

Sevinç ÇELİK ÖZTÜRK

In 2006, I graduated from the Department of Foreign Languages Education of the Middle East Technical University. I received my Master's degree also from the Department of English Literature of the Middle East Technical University. In this process, I have devoted myself to METU Ilkyar and I have been involved in various Ilkyar projects. After working as an instructor at the School of Foreign Languages of Gazi University for about a year, I started to work as an instructor at the School of Foreign Languages, Department of Basic English of Atilim University until 2016. I believe that the various responsibilities I undertake at the institutions I have worked and the tasks I have been assigned in different departments are very helpful to my professional development. My professional interests are material development, motivation, brain-based learning, and multiple intelligences. Apart from that, I am interested in drama, and I think drama teaching, autonomous learning and student perceptions are important in language acquisition. I like reading books, watching movies, and writing short stories and poems occasionally.

Asst. Prof. Sezer ÖZERİNÇ
Department of Mechanical Engineering

I graduated with the highest degree from the Department of Mechanical Engineering of METU in 2008. I received my Master's degree from the same department. I received my PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2015. I have been working as an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering since February 2016. I am doing research on the develop- ment of high strength nanomaterials and abrasion resistant nanostructured coatings and examining the mechanical properties of these structures. I also continue my studies on understanding the mechanical properties of metallic lenses in micro scale, the changes under radiation of structural materials used in nuclear power plants, and the mechanical behaviors of three dimensional printed product structures.

Asst. Prof. Ulaş YAMAN
Department of Mechanical Engineering
I have been working at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Middle East Technical University since February 2016. I received my Bachelor's (2007), Master's (2010) and PhD (2014) degreed from the Department of Mechanical Engineering of METU. I completed the mechatronic minor program during my undergraduate education. After the PhD, I worked as a guest lecturer at Purdue University (USA), Department of Computer Science during 2014-2015. I like pursuing interdisciplinary work in the light of the studies I conducted at Purdue University and the vision provided by the mechatronics education. My work areas are 3D (3B) printers and joint manufacturing, CAD/CAM software architects, command generation for production systems, FPGA-based embedded systems and computational geometry. I have great deal of publications in these areas, and now I am conducting a TUBITAK project titled "A New Design and Production Flow for 3D Printers: LIPRO". In my free time, I like playing the musical folk instrument, bağlama, and making black pencil drawings.

Asst. Prof. Umut ÖZGE
Informatics Institute
I studied Chemical Engineering in METU and I worked as an engineer for almost a year. When I found out that METU has a department called Cognitive Science that brings artificial intelligence, linguistics, psychology and philosophy together, I quit engineering and started my Master's degree in that department; and then I received my MSc and PhD degrees from the same department. My research has been largely on the logical and computational models of semantics of natural languages. I worked as a post-doctoral researcher at Stuttgart and Cologne Universities, and visited Harvard University and the University of Edinburgh. For the last two years, I have been teaching courses on logic, computer programming, philosophy of language, artificial intelligence and theoretical computer science, and continue doing research on computational and formal semantics as an assistant professor in Department of Cognitive Science at METU.

Yasemin KÜÇÜKAYDIN
School of Foreign Languages - Department of Basic English
I am a graduate of Undergraduate Program of English Language Teaching, Department of Foreign Language Education, METU. I started to work as an instructor at Kırıkkale University when I graduated in 2010. During my working life, I have had the opportunity to teach different profiles for different purposes. I worked at Kırıkkale University as the head of the Division of Modern Languages. I also worked in measurement, evaluation and curriculum departments. I have done research on speech teaching and grammar teaching, and I am thinking about taking these studies forward. My interests include literature, travelling and music.
